2 Simple Firefox Add-ons to Improve Your Browsing Experience

I'm frequently asked what add-ons can make your browsing experience more pleasurable or simpler for other users. My top 3 Add-Ons that I like to install on my Firefox Installations are Adblock Plus, Download Statusbar, and Downthemall. Though I use many more extensions, these are the 2 I tend to include for new computers/users of Mozilla Firefox.

1) Adblock Plus

Adblock Plus has to be my favorite extension on Chrome and Firefox. It blocks all of those annoying ads on websites and even protects you from malware. Adblock Plus specializes in blocking some of the most intrusive advertisements including trailers and commercials on Youtube.com. If you're a big fan of watching videos, you'd be shocked at the amount of time you would save by skipping those 1-3 minute trailers on Youtube videos. It also blocks several malicious sites or embedded content from malicious sites. It's great first line of defense when browsing. I honest can't understand how everyone doesn't have this add-on. This gets my number one vote.

2) Download Statusbar

dl_statusbarDownload Statusbar is another one of my favorite add-ons. Although Firefox continues to improves its download manager and downloads window. I still prefer the Chrome style download bar. It's just easy to see and easy to access for novice users. Lots of basic users have difficulty locating their downloads in all browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox. The concept of the statusbar makes the location of the recent download very apparent to the novice user. It's also good for advanced users to track download status of multiple files without having to bring up a download manager. You also can see the average speed which I know a lot of advanced users like to monitor.

Is Firefox your browser of choice over Chrome and IE?
    • Yes it is my personal choice over Chrome and IE due to the larger extension library. It's also open source unlike Chrome and IE. Opera is another good one. I use several add-ons Adblock Plus, Downthemall, Download statusbar, Multilinks, etc. that just aren't available or don't work as well on Chrome. I rarely recommend IE. Chrome is my recommendation to the average user.
